The traditional event of the Redentore in Venice has been celebrated for over four centuries on the third weekend of July.

It dates back to 1577 when, at the end of the terrible plague epidemic, the Venetian Senate gave the order to build the Basilica of the SS. Redentore on the island of Giudecca, to which you can still go on pilgrimage today by crossing an impressive 330m-long bridge of boats.

The Redentore this year will be held on Saturday 16 July, with the solemn function presided over by the Patriarch and the religious procession to the Church of the Redentore, together with the stunning fireworks set up in St. Mark’s Basin.

The following Sunday, the celebrations end with the gondola regatta, within the Rowing Season of « Voga alla Veneta ».
